DEBENHAMS' Lichfield store is to be more extensive than originally planned when it opens in May.

The store, located in the former TJ Hughes premises in Three Spires Shopping Centre, will now be spread over three floors and feature a cafe and homeware department.

70 jobs were expected to be created but a further 15 positions will be available in the cafe.

Store manager Sam Zeen, who has worked for the retailer for 18 years, said: "People have already been telling me what a great addition Debenhams will be to Lichfield and adding an additional floor of shopping space for our customers makes it even more exciting; we can't wait to get the doors open.

"It's great, especially in the current climate, to be expanding and investing in new areas and creating new jobs.

"I'm excited about building the Lichfield store team and working with local people to create a fantastic shopping experience."

Other departments at the store will include a cosmetics and fragrance hall, women's wear, men's wear, lingerie, accessories and children's wear.

The cosmetics hall will include products by Clarins, Benefit, Lancome, Clinique and Estee Lauder while clothing collections will include Julien Macdonald, John Rocha, Ben de Lisi and Jasper Conran.

Trading hours for the store are yet to be confirmed.
